We're back!!

We're back from a fun vacation/family reunion to Martin's Cove and the Sweetwater 6th crossing. Alot of Eric's cousins were there. I think the total count of people was 171 with about 101 kids under 12 there. Crazy. We trekked about 8 miles in 2 days and had a great time eating and visiting. There was ALOT of crying babies!! It was crazy. Some of the highlights were a baptism in the Sweetwater, sudden downpours of rain (at least 3 that soaked you to the bone!), 3 Sweetwater river crossing where ALL of our stuff had to be removed from the carts including babies and a line of people standing in the river helping everyone cross, arrival of Epr. Hanks and hearing the long time Stake Pres of Riverton Stake speak to us about some of the experiences he had with the 1st Presidency in aquiring land and getting the whole trekking process started in the late 90's, lots of good food, some kind of tornado or dust storm on the way home just outside of Ritzville, seeing buffalo upclose and personal (but Eric didn't get the pics he thought he did??), Shell Falls-beautiful but I forgot to bring my camera, seeing the restuarant where Erica works, beautiful-same trip with no camera!! And just a great time all around. Wish it could have lasted longer. I will post pics soon.

Happy B-day Summer

Yesterday was Summer's b-day. She turned 11!! I'm going to have another teen type soon, if she already can't be counted as a teen type?!! Summer is a great girl. She's very kind and thoughtful and good. Too the core good. If she knows it's wrong, she won't do it or let anyone else do it either. For her b-day she got an MP4 player, a fur real pet and a new towel and dress. She liked everything!! Yeah, I did good on that. We had to parties yesterday including lunch at Phillips with the Hawkins kids as their parents are in Chile picking up their Missionary son, Tyler. We made 350 wagon wheel cookies for the up coming Freeman Trek in WY this week. Amy is a mover!! And everyone did a good job helping. Then we went to Gma Nielson's for a little dinner and b-day cake. It was a fun, busy day. Summer also had to give a talk and did a great job on it (although I forgot to go because I was in the nursery with Brek!) Happy Birthday, Summer. We love you!!

Corn and Pumpkins

We are still getting ready for the trek. Pioneer sprayed the weeds in the corn field but before they did that we had to dig up our spontanous growing pumpkin plants so they wouldn't get sprayed. I dug them up and put them in buckets for less then 12 hours. When I got home from town that afternoon, those pumpkins weren't looking very good. They were all wilted and dying. Eric and I replanted them. He didn't think they would survive but they have. Also since the corn was sprayed we had to culivate the dead weeds. Pioneer dropped off a tractor and culivator for us to use for one night. After spending half of the night getting the culivator fixed so that it wasn't dragging a bunch of trash and pulling up all the corn, Eric culivated until 10 and then went out this morning to finish up at 5:30. By 7:30 Pioneer was here picking up the tractor. Glad we got that done. The corn does look nice with no weeds and the fresh dirt all turned up. It also smells really good to, like spring and summer all mixed together. Lexi is off at girls camp this week so we are adjusting to life without her around. Also trying to get all the pre work done on the 4th of July Parade so that whomever is going to do it on the 4th will have an easier time of putting on a parade. My weight loss is at 50 lbs. Just hanging out right around there. Other than that, we have been kind of boring.

Busy-ness

We are trying to get ready for the Freeman Trek in 2 weeks. I'm not going to be in BC for the first time in years to run the 4th of July parade. Hopefully it will happen. I'm sure it will be ok. Lexi gets to wear eye liner and shadow now that she's 13. Now we just need to figure out how to put it on!! Other than that, a little mowing the lawn, a little preparing for family this weekend for Father's Day. What is everyone doing for Father's Day? What are you getting for presents? Weigh loss after gaining 5 pounds from the ward trek!! Can you believe it?? I'm knocking on the door at 50 lbs lost. Hurray!! Almost half there to my goal of weight loss.

Severe Weather

Ok, so our severe weather story. A couple weeks ago we were gone somewhere on a Saturday. When we came home, we found our trampoline like this. Apparently, we had a little tornado in our yard?? And the hurricane worthy news. We have a new addition to our house, Katrina the cat. We got her from our good friends and neighbors, the Naefs. We named her Katrina because of all the havic that happened trying to get her including but not limited too...scratching dad's hand off, catching her once thinking she hadn't had her babies and then finding out a day and half later that she had delivered and they were in Naef's attic and couldn't be reached. Had to catch her again, hench the arm mutilation. Reuniting her with her babies and then a few weeks later catching her again to come live with us. I have seen her still reeking havic on our mouse population!! HURRAY!! So Katrina is a great name for her-Kat for short.

Trek 2009

Here are some pictures of the trek. The first two are of Rocky Ridge. That was an incredible to see the brute strength of the men and then of the girls pulling on the rope at the top. Lexi pulled up about 10 handcarts (with others of course). She stayed and helped until the last handcart was up. Summer did a great job taking care of Brek. She's a good babysitter.

Lexi had to ride the pony in her dress (very becoming) to get to Zion so she could give a part. It was very uncomfy for her.

Summer hanging out with her friends. They did alot of pushing also. It's amazing how a few little people can make a big difference. The picture of the water, is the ferry. We had to pull ourselves across the water with the rope.
